Physical Activity Training Institute: Play Rugby: High School PSAL Workshop description:

Learn about rugby- the 3rd most popular sport in the world, re-introduced into the Olympics for the 2016 games and played in over 120 countries. This interactive workshop and Q & A session will teach participants how the sport of rugby can help recruit new un tapped students to team sports while helping develop transferable skills from a school’s current student- athlete population.

Rugby is an all inclusive sport where everybody in the team can run, pass, catch, and kick the ball. Everybody also has the opportunity to score. Furthermore, the life skills developed such as teamwork, leadership, discipline and respect are key to each teams’ performance. All these skills plus the many others help create “complete” athletes. The workshop will touch on how to coach decision making, lead up games, rules and principles and skills and concepts. Further, the workshop will outline logistics regarding recruiting, physical requirements from student athletes, season structure, co-coaching support & equipment requirements.

Attendees will leave with sample curriculum materials, information on where they can find additional rugby resources and the opportunity sign up for America’s first PSAL rugby program!
